Open letter to District 4

Dear District 4 –

As a Spruce High School graduate and daughter of Pleasant Grove, I am honored to announce I am running for the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees, District 4. This race symbolizes that students from our neighborhoods can grow up to be leaders that positively impact the very communities that raised them. Southeast Dallas made me who I am, and I would be honored to represent the students and families that call our district home.

Our school district is the gateway for kids to become successful citizens. Education has been transformational in my life, allowing me and my family to do more and be more. As a child, my parents allowed me to dream big because they knew education was the key to financial success and stability. This dream cannot be unique to me; each and every student in District 4 deserves that very same hope and access to success, and I am running for school board on the promise that I will work tirelessly to ensure they get every resource and opportunity they need.

Dallas ISD is making strides, but our District 4 schools make up 40% of the F-rated schools in the entire district. This is not just a statistic; it’s a crisis that demands urgent attention. We must change the path of our D4 schools now. Our children deserve more. As your next Trustee, I will be focused on:

  • Supporting our schools with the resources they need to meet the needs of our children.
  • Ensuring our schools are safe and secure and supporting mental health needs of students.
  • Engaging parents and community members to ensure families feel welcome in our schools.
  • Promoting early education so students are Pre-K ready and set up for success.
  • Retaining our excellent teachers through better compensation, greater autonomy, and transparent accountability.

I am enthusiastic about becoming your next District 4 Trustee and I am ready to do the work to earn your trust and vote. I look forward to many conversations in the coming weeks and I am anxious to learn more about your experiences, concerns and hopes for our district and students. Over the next two months you can find me knocking on doors in your neighborhood, attending candidate forums, and gathering in living rooms and yards across the district as I work to meet every voter I can. If I don’t see you out there, please know you are welcome to contact me directly at prismafordisd@gmail.com at any point.

Our public school children can do anything. I live my dream daily, and all District 4 kids deserve the same. My parents’ sacrifices, like many of our district parents, are not in vain. Together, we can destroy barriers and give every student an equitable shot at life.

The odds have always been stacked against me, but they have not defined me, and each day, I choose to be a force for good. I hope you will join my campaign and help show Dallas that District 4 deserves more, deserves better, and we deserve it now.

Sincerely,

Prisma Garcia

Candidate for Dallas ISD Trustee, District 4
